Since COVID has become the new normal for us, we’ve made the decision to temporarily suspend formal children’s ministry out of an abundance of caution for our families and children. Please jump over to the Visit page for more info on visiting with children. However, feel free to read on to learn more about GC Kids and what we hope to return to when it is safe to do so.
We want to make Jesus non-ignorable to our children. We want to show them that He is real, that He came to earth in space and time to save sinners, and that He calls children like them to know and love Him. Even though parents are the primary spiritual influence in a child’s life, it is the responsibility of the whole church family to create a gospel community for our children. Our volunteers consider it a privilege to partner with parents in discipling the next generation.
To help us do this, we use the Gospel Story Curriculum from New Growth Press. Because children need help understanding that the Bible is one story with Jesus as the hero, the Gospel Story Curriculum focuses on Christ as it teaches preschool through rising sixth-grade children key stories from Genesis to Revelation that highlight God’s plan of redemption.
WHAT TO EXPECT EACH SUNDAY
As we work to continually develop our children’s ministries at Grace City Church, here’s what you can expect each time we gather on Sunday.
When you arrive at the church building, a greeter will point you to our GC Kids! Check-in table. There you will be greeted by a volunteer who will help you get signed into our GC Kids! system. Once checked in, you’ll receive a label with your child’s name (and any important info we need to know), as well as a security tag, which you’ll hang onto (once the meeting is over, you will need this tag to pick up your child). You and your child with then join the rest of the gathered church in the sanctuary. During an announced time in the meeting, your child will be dismissed and escorted downstairs to the cafeteria by a GC Kids! volunteer. Should your child need you during the sermon, we will display the ID number on your security tag on the stage screen.
Once the worship meeting is over, please report to your child’s classroom (downstairs in the cafeteria) with your security tag. No child will be released without this tag. Please see a GC Kids! teacher or volunteer if you have any questions.
GC KIDS! AGE GROUPS
GC NURSERY: We welcome infants aged 6 weeks through to children age 4 in this room. Should your child need a diaper change or if they are inconsolable (at the discretion of our volunteers), we will page you by displaying your child’s security tag number on the stage screen.
GC KIDS: We welcome elementary school aged children in this class (Kindergarten through 5th grade).
GC YOUTH: Children in sixth grade and older will remain in the sanctuary during the sermon. We will provide a sheet that will enable them to take notes during the sermon and challenge them to ask questions of the text. Parents are encouraged to discuss the sermon with their children on the drive home!
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Safety and Security
Because we all care about protecting our children, every GC Kids volunteer must complete a special training session through MinistrySafe and an application, including reference and background checks. At least two volunteers are required to be with children at all times, and we follow additional child-to-adult ratios for providing optimal care. Please reach out to us if you would like to volunteer! A pastor or GC Kids volunteer will contact you shortly.
Children must wear a security tag and will only be released to guardians with the matching security tag. If the Guardian Receipt has been lost, the director will compare your driver’s license to the list of approved guardians on file. Please keep your check-in account up-to-date with approved guardians, as well as with any allergies or medical conditions that we should be aware of!
Health and Wellness
We require that a child be free of symptoms for 24 hours before entering GC Kids. Please keep your child home if he/she experiences fever, vomiting, diarrhea, cloudy or green runny nose, cough, sore throat, chills, fatigue, body or headaches, unexplained rash, and/or any communicable disease or infection such as cold, flu, croup, lice, pink eye, scarlet fever, measles, mumps, chicken pox, strep throat, etc.
Classrooms are thoroughly cleaned during and after service to prevent the passing of germs. Cleanliness and security are top priority in diapering and restroom breaks, as well.
