PRAYER FOCUS: Faithfulness in our calling.
As members of the body of Christ, God simply calls us to be faithful where He has placed us. He wants us to trust in His word and promises, even when we don’t see results. Let’s pray for faithfulness to endure with joy in our present callings. To do so, we are using Hebrews 11 as a guide.
Employees
Noah believed the word of God and patterned his life after it (v 7).
Pray that God grant those in the workplace a reverent fear of God, even if no one else honors him. Pray for faithfulness to do their work as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:17) and be faithful to complete the tasks assigned to them.
Students
Abel was commended by God because he gave to him his very best (v 4).
Pray that God would give students the grace to work hard to be pleasing to Him (2 Tim. 2:15); and to stand for God’s glory, even when classmates may despise them for their faith in Jesus. Pray also that they would be protected from the lies of relativism and humanism (Col 2:8).
Neighbors
The patriarchs longed for their home in heaven (where Christ is), looking to a reward that was beyond their earthly possessions or inheritance (v 13-16). Rahab used her home to show hospitality to strangers out of reverence to the Lord (v 31).
Pray that those with neighbors would count their homes and possessions as means of serving those around them. Pray for fruitful gospel conversations and deeper relationships with them. Pray that God would draw neighbors to Himself, become a part of GCC.
Parents and children
Moses’ parents believed that God had a plan for their son and that he would be a blessing to God’s people (v 23). Because of this they hid him, not out of fear, but in faith. Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter because he knew that even suffering for Christ would yield greater reward than the fleeting enjoyment that sin brings (v 24-27).
Pray for parents, that they would be given faith to see beyond the present season, that God has a plan for the children born to them. Pray that children would be given a vision of the One who is invisible and that their hearts would be filled up with love for Jesus. Pray that they would be given faith to resist the temptations of the world, and see that the road of suffering for Christ’s sake is more rewarding than the easy and wide road that leads to destruction.
Husbands and Wives
Sarah trusted in the faithfulness of God to her and the people of God trusted in His promises and goodness toward them, even when the journey became difficult (v 11; 29-30; 36-38).
Pray for married couples, that God would give faith to persevere through difficult seasons. Pray for humility and love to permeate our marriages, for husbands to love their wives like Jesus’ loves them and for wives to honor their husbands as the church honors her Savior (Ephesians 5:22-33).
Church Members
When God called Abraham to leave his homeland, he went out not knowing where he was going. He was able to live in tents, denying himself earthly comforts, because his hope was in the inheritance laid up for him in heaven (v 8-10).
Pray that each of us would be faithful in the place where God has us. Pray that God would give us courage to deny those (even good) things that might hamper His mission. Pray for faith to be committed to this body as we all walk through the seedling stages of church planting.
